Five rave fit formulas that always work.

A cheat-sheet for festival outfits when your brain is melting and the playa is calling.

Every one of these is one decision plus accessories. Pick a formula, raid your own closet, fill the gaps here.

1. Harness + bottoms + boots

The base of most good rave fits. A harness reads as a whole outfit on its own, so everything under it can be plain. Black on black, then one loud colour in the boots or the bag.

Works because the harness carries the silhouette and nothing else has to.

2. Mesh layer over a two-piece

A long-sleeve mesh top over a bikini or bra top does three things at once: coverage from the sun, a second texture, and somewhere to put rhinestones. Oversized mesh reads relaxed, tight mesh reads sharp — pick before you buy.

3. Bodysuit + something structural

A bodysuit is a fit in one garment. Add exactly one structural piece — a skirt with volume, chaps, a corset belt, wide-leg pants — and stop. The failure mode of this formula is adding a second structural piece.

4. Matching set, wrong shoes

Head-to-toe matching set, then deliberately break it with footwear that doesn't belong: platform boots under something delicate, or beat-up sneakers under something ornate. The mismatch is the point and it photographs well.

5. All black, all texture

When you cannot think, wear black and let the materials do it: latex, mesh, velvet, leather, fringe. Four textures in one colour looks intentional at any hour of the night.

The rules under the formulas

  • Shoes decide how long your night is. Break them in before the event, or bring the backup pair. Every year someone learns this the hard way.
  • Pockets or a harness bag. Phone, keys, ID, earplugs. If the fit has nowhere to put them, the fit is not finished.
  • Layer for 3am. The temperature drop is real. A jacket you like is part of the outfit, not a compromise on it.
  • Sunscreen under body glitter, in that order, or you'll wear the pattern for a week.

Bring us the event and we'll build the fit. That's genuinely our favourite part of the job.
